Mr. Harvey, a co-creator of the TV show Cold Case Files, has fashioned a fine 1st PI novel with nice Chicago ambiance. Michael Kelly, former cop turned PI, is hired by his old partner to investigate an eight year old rape and battery case that has been covered up and remains unsolved. Kelly must deal with a serial killer, the mob and betrayals to solve the case.

Mr. Kelly writes with a Chandler-like narrative and stays within the form of the PI novel. The plotting keeps the reader interested and the characters ring true as real people. An excellent debut, I look forward to many others.
