David Levien, an accomplished Hollywood screenwriter, has crafed a first mystery featuring Indianapolis PI Frank Behr. Behr is hired by a family whose only child, a son, dissapeared fourteen months before. Behr, already mourning the death of his own son reluctantly takes the case. What follows is a fine first crime novel.

City of the Sun works nicely on a couple of levels. First the novel is an excellent procedural, we follow Behr in detail as he solves the case. The ending scenes are thrilling and touching. Levien also manages to make the parents of the victim very real, the reader lives through their anguish as they try to salvage their lives without closure. He also deals with dark subject matter and makes the plot uplifting. I look forward to his next book.
