Author Joe Konrath returns with the fourth in the Chicago Police series featuring Lieutenant Jacqueline"Jack" Daniels. This time she is given a make-or-break case involving a creep who is poisoning the city's food supplies. The sicko wants ransom money and is willing to kill hundreds or even thousands to get it. As with the others in the series, Konrath is able to combine a thriller with a generic mystery. His characters are well drawn, the reader cares for them and since he writes some of the sickest villians in crime writing the books are impossible to put down. Konrath's books are also funny, with wonderful black comedy. The books also have great Chicago ambiance and are some of the most entertaining mysteries being written today.
