Frank Coffin, burnt out Baltimore cop, returns to his home town of Provincetown, Massachusetts and becomes Sheriff. First, a TV evangelist is found dead in drag and other bodies begin to pile up. Coffin must stop the killings and discover the reasons behind the crimes. Loomis has written a very pleasant American Police Procedural. Excellent characters, New England ambiance, and fine, wry plotting mark this very well written first mystery. Loomis has joined the ranks of William Tapply, Archer Mayor, K.C. Constantine, Ric Boyer and others who keep the small town American Police novel alive and thriving. I look forward to many more.
