Last Call
|
James Grippando has done it again. His seventh Jack Swyteck novel (after a stand alone novel; of which there are several) surpasses the sixth and pleasantly pulls along the reader with well spaced surprises. Jack is a defense lawyer in Fla. His best friend, Theo Knight is a child of the toughest neighborhood in Miami. One of Jack's earliest cases proved Theo innocent and got him off death row. Now the past has come back to haunt Theo and he turns to Jack to help him once again. The death of Theo's momma wasn't a high priority for the Miami detectives. No suspect was ever found.
Twenty years have passed and a newly escaped convict is willing to trade information
in exchange for Theo's help. Theo and Jack work up a plan that'll allow Theo
to legally 'bite.' The pace is quick, the plotting believable, the characters
are fully developed and all the protagonists react to each other the way real
friends would. Last Call shouldn't be. The subplot, involving
Jack's love life, suggests there are more stories to come. Expect to stay up
after hours with Swyteck and Knight.
