Hit and Run

This will be another in a string of good reviews for Lawrence Block. It's
hard to imagine a skilled writer such as he getting a bad review. If one were
to make a checklist for Hit and Run it would cover all the
techniques Mr. Block uses to craft a well done and as a result well received
story. Witty protagonist, check, Clever plot, check. Quirky yet realistic feeling
situations, check. Smooth writing style, etc. In this latest outing Mr. Block
tells the story of Just Plain Keller. J.P.Keller is a hit man. Fans familiar
with him from his short story appearances will be pleased to see he rates a
full novel. Those who've never heard of Keller can now look up the short stories
for another smile. Keller works with his associate "Dot" who sets
up his last hit for him. Always cautious, and this being his last contract,
Keller takes pains to separate himself from the job. When it goes stunningly
awry Keller is forced to run.His life changes radically as a result. Cleverly
done, sleek smooth and fun, Hit And Run is a nice summer pick
up. Hit the bookstore and run to the beach with it.
